I remember vividly when I first came to Korea and, after searching for cute cafès, I found the very peculiar black and white cartoon cafè called "Yeonnam-dong 239-20". At that time Cafè Greem was still a super small cafè, hidden away between buildings of the residential area. I also remember it took me so much to find it! One thing I remember is that I never saw anything like that before; it literally was so unique, something I'd never found in Italy. I guess I was not the only one who thought that way, because after a while the place moved in a bigger building and in a way more visible area in the neighborhood. And that's how Yeonnam-dong 239-20 became Cafè Yeonnam-dong 223-14. Obviously, now it's simply known as the famous 2D cafè in Seoul or "Greem Cafè". So, are you ready to slip into this comic book made into reality with me? ;)
The name Greem is actually the word "그림", which means drawing in Korean. Well, it's not surprising, isn't it?! It's not like every day to find a black and white cartoon cafè, and I'm so glad I got the chance to see such a unique idea develop into one of the hot-spot cafès of Yeonnam neighborhood. When you enter the place it feels like you're suddenly into a two-dimensional drawing, where everything looks like a cartoon. It surely is what we would define "instagrammable", with everything -from furniture to appliances, to walls and floors- built to follow the "cartoon theme". Over the years Cafè Greem got super famous and became very well known in town.
This cartoon theme cafè became so famous that it even appeared in the 3rd Netflix produced movie "to all the boys I've loved before". When I saw the trailer, I immediately recognized it. I guess that's one of the perks to be the famous "cartoon cafè in Seoul", there's nothing that looks like you! In the trailer, Lara Jean is seen talking with Margot and Kitty in the cafè, and you can also see her write one of her famous letters. Actually, I and my friends couldn't recreate the scene of the movies because we were in another spot (the table of the movie was occupied, of course) and we couldn't go upstairs on the 2nd floor because...we were tired, actually! And moreover, we only had one hour to enjoy coffee together, because of the rules set by the cafè that you can only stay there one hour (one hour and a half if you count the fact you're waiting for your food). The building in Seoul has three floors, there's plenty of space, but I've never seen the one in Jeju-- I just know they opened a bigger branch there!
My experience was, overall, very nice. The staff was so kind and extremely attentive to the safety norms. During the pandemic, the rules are obviously a bit stricter. Aside from social distancing, as of today, you can only stay inside one hour, and only in groups of a maximum of five people. It's also required that you check your temperature and sign your name and telephone number before they let you in. The choice of food, desserts, and drinks is now more varied than when I first visited the place. We decided to opt for a Green Tea Latte, a normal caffè-latte and I went for the house specialty: hwahwa choco. They make the chocolate flower, apparently. While the chocolate flower was good, the drink (ice cream with lots of ice and chocolate) was okay. Nothing special. Same for the drinks, which I guess were the usual drinks you can find in many places, made with the powder mix. Next time I go (if I go again) I will try the food, and hopefully, I can try the cupcakes that appear in the trailer of "To All The Boys: Always and Forever"'.

Rubrica #SeoulCoffeeShopUna delle cose da fare a Seoul - a parte andare in giro a fare shopping - è quello di girare i numerosi Coffee Shop che qui sbucano come funghi. A parte le grandi catene (The Coffee Bean, Angel in Us ecc) ci sono molti caffè unici e innovativi, molti dei quali offrono buon cibo, altri un bel background per il vostro profilo instagram, altri...nessuna delle due cose, visto che esistono anche quelli brutti e con cibo/bevande pessimeH (per i gusti degli occidentali). Vivere a Seoul comporta anche entrare nell'ottica di "vivere" i caffè in maniera diversa dall'Italia. Il Coffee Shop in Corea è un negozietto in cui si preparano cibo e bevande, in cui si può sostare ore e ore dopo aver consumato la propria ordinazione. Molti studenti (anche io) vi sostano per studiare poichè ci sono prese del PC, wifi gratuito, acqua gratuita e riscaldamento. Alcuni sono più affollati e chiacchiericci, altri sono più silenziosi e restano aperti 24h proprio per gli studenti. Ci sono poi i Book Cafè in cui vige la regola del silenzio totale, poichè sono specifici per chi studia; i prezzi sono bassissimi, ma si paga anche una piccola tassa oraria (di circa 1000won a ora) per sostare lì e studiare. Quindi oggi inauguro sul blog la rubrica #SeoulCoffeeShop, così da farvi vedere alcuni dei posti più fashion e famosi fra i giovani coreani, sperando sia di farvi venir voglia di viaggiare in Corea, sia di darvi qualche spunto sui posti da visitare a Seoul.
Caffe Atmosphere è un caffè situato in Mangwondong, uno dei miei posti preferiti in tutta Seoul. Questo coffeeshop è famoso per i macarons basati su cartoni animati, difatti è diventato famoso soprattutto per quelli a forma di Barbapapa. Come dice il nome, questo spazioso caffè è decisamente il top per l'atmosfera rilassante che lo differenzia da molti altri caffè "instagrammabili". Qui è abbastanza tranquillo da poter studiare, anche se non tutti i tavoli sono abbastanza comodi per poterlo fare. Il mio preferito è il grande tavolo di legno vicino alla finestra.
Quando mi sono recata le prime volte con amici, ovviamente mi sono seduta ai tavolini piccini e ci siamo fatti una bella chiacchierata in tranquillità. Davvero, nonostante la molta gente, resta un locale tranquillo. Di solito è molto pieno a tutte le ore se non a pranzo (quindi vi consiglio di andarci proprio verso l'una/le due, magari per sostituire il pasto con i dolci ) e se ci andate nel weekend dovrete probabilmente aspettare per sedervi. Ogni giorno sfornano diversi macaron fatti e decorati al momento, quindi potete aspettare che sfornino gli altri in caso il vostro gusto perferito non ci sia. I mii preferiti sono il cuore al cioccolato e la ciambella alla nutella. Il prezzo è di 2.500won, che non è basso MA non è neanche alto come in posti tipo Paris Baguette, Starbucks etc, dove non è che i dolci siano davvero artigianali.
Una menzione d'onore va alle torte e alle bibite, che sono buonissime. Questo posto, come ho detto, è famosissimo per i macaron, ma anche il resto è molto buono. Il Vienna coffee caldo è una delizia, profuma davvero come il tiramisù. Nelle foto potete vedere anche il Milk Tea della casa (in entrambe) il green tea latte - che non era un matcha dal sapore bello pieno, stile giapponese.- e una bibita buonissima con caramello, latte e nocciole di cui ho dimenticato il nome. Tra i dolci, la torta cioccolato e menta era buona, solo un po' pesante (guardate le dimensioni oh my god). Buon cibo, bella atmosfera, prezzi in linea con altri coffee....vi consiglio di passarci, magari per rilassarvi dopo aver fatto una visitina al mercato di Mangwon.
